Nestled in the lush landscapes of Morelos, just a stone’s throw from Mexico City, lies Cuernavaca, a destination that has captivated travelers for centuries. Known as the City of Eternal Spring, its temperate climate, vibrant gardens, and colonial charm have made it a retreat for emperors, artists, and writers alike.

It was here that  yours truly grew up, so I admit I’m partial to the unique way I think Cuernavaca “sees life.” For years I thought having access to big beautiful gardens and being surrounded by plants that would flower all year round was the norm. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be inappropriate or talk about privilege or lack thereof, but rather highlight that later, I came across many other places of the same size and population as Cuernavaca where that "savoir vivre"—that enjoyment of greenery and terraces that I have always loved—was absent. It's a big part of my cherished memories (and we cooked! and then, we feasted!) with my family and specially with my grandparents.

Even Hernán Cortés, the conquistador, chose this place as the site for his grand estate. Known by locals as Palacio de Cortés, it is part of the quaint historic center, a quick walk from beautiful monuments like the Cathedral––a walled early 16th-century Franciscan complex with various churches, a garden, a bell tower, and a cloister with historic murals. Other attractions include the Borda Gardens and––one of my favorites––the Museo Robert Brady, pictured above.

Whether you’re seeking serenity, history, or indulgence, Cuernavaca offers a range of dreamy accommodations.
